We’re excited to welcome you to the Radicle Rebellion, where we’re revolutionizing healthcare and clinical trials by disrupting the status quo. Come meet the rebels at the heart of Radicle Science: the research team. These four women combine rigorous research methodology, laser sharp focus on study end-points, fierce work ethic, and complete dedication to the cause—with hearts filled with kindness, respect, and fun!

Are you ready to meet the team?

Emily Pauli, PharmD, Chief Research Officer

What or who led you to join the Radicle team?

An intriguing job description floated into my inbox from a friend: “The work will be hard, and safety is not guaranteed, but if we succeed, we will permanently alter the course of medicine for all future generations.”

When I read this, I knew I had found my people! I sent my CV and cover to Jeff, and the rest is Radicle history.

What’s your role in the Radicle research studies?

I’m the Chief of Research. I work with investigators and advisors on study design, secure IRB-approval, oversee the studies, and ensure that our research is held to the highest standards.

I also interface with brand partners to discuss study details and timelines, and for those in our discovery studies, can advise on dose/titration schedules when we are researching alternative dosing schedules.

What can you tell me about the Radicle research process that you find interesting or stimulating?

I LOVE that we study natural product effectiveness with the much-needed scientific rigor. Our research model is genius, using a virtual, direct-to-consumer approach that fundementally disrupts the traditional clinical trial model.

What’s something “radicle” about you?

I’m a vegan/pescatarian and the team scientist for an all female BBQ team (BoobBQ).

I’m a two-time cancer survivor and at this point have been a cancer survivor for the majority of my life!

How do you see Radicle Science as visionary and different from other companies?

We are either all insane or onto something amazing (I’m going with the latter, but a bit of the former too)! No one else has put the pieces together as we have in revolutionizing clinical trials. By scaling and using cutting-edge technology, including virtualization and AI, we deliver rigorous insights quickly. Other companies take months to years longer, or they do not have the scientific rigor, OR they are 10X more expensive. Our methods are sound, our pricing fair, and execution quick… that is radically different from the traditional research world!

What is a larger goal or purpose in your life and how does working at Radicle satisfy that?

A healthy and balanced lifestyle is essential to my well-being. Radicle really matches my ethos with a focus on health and wellness—not just the products we study, but lifestyle. Taking time at work retreats to play and mediate, as well as discussing magical moments, are great examples. It’s not one BIG thing… it’s the total package!

Anything else you want to add?

Two years ago, I considered joining big pharma, working in the field as a medical director, staying in my lane and retiring after ten years. ANYONE that knows me, knows that is NOT me, but I was burned out and stressed out, and it seemed an easy route out.

Radicle re-ignited my passion for what I do, and more importantly, WHO I do it with! I absolutely LOVE working and growing with Radicle, the people, the science, our brand partners, and participants. I am excited for our future and would do it over again and again with this amazing group!

Jessica Saleska, PhD, MPH, Director of Research

What or who led you to join the Radicle team?

A fellow postdoc at UCLA had worked with Jeff at UCLA and sent me a job posting. I wasn’t qualified for the position, but I emailed Jeff directly letting him know I was desperate to leave the confines of academia. I wanted to make a palpable difference in the world, outside of the ivory tower, and his company seemed like a thrilling place to work. The mission ignited my passion! Jeff and Pelin took a chance on my passion, and the rest is history.

What’s your role in the studies?

I help in the study design, analysis and reporting of results. I also work on strategies to boost participant engagement.

What can you tell me about the Radicle research process that you find interesting or stimulating?

Our process doesn’t have the same bureaucratic paralysis that you see at other research institutions. We are much less constrained than what I’ve experienced in the past, from the language we use with participants to the way we generate and implement new ideas. We’re not stodgy, but definitely rebellious!

What’s something “radicle” about you?

I joined this company!

How do you see Radicle Science as visionary and different from other companies?

The speed and efficiency at which we run clinical trials is very impressive.

What is a larger goal or purpose in your life and how does working at Radicle satisfy that?

I am a deeply curious person. Some of the questions we are asking have never been answered before. I am genuinely excited to see the results.

Olivia Cobb, MS, Biostatistician

What or who led you to join the Radicle team?

Grace is friends with my mom. They reunited at a Marian conference, and when Grace heard that I was working as a biostatistician at the Washington University in St. Louis, she connected me with Radicle.

What’s your role in the studies?

I’m a biostatistician and analyze our large scale data for clinically significant results.

What can you tell me about the Radicle research process that you find interesting or stimulating?

I love working with real life data, evaluating how different products impact a person’s quality of life.

What’s something “radicle” about you?

My faith.

How do you see Radicle Science as visionary and different from other companies?

Their desire to break the mold, question things we thought we knew, and see what all we can accomplish.

What is a larger goal or purpose in your life and how does working at Radicle satisfy that?

I view every task I commit to as an effort I am making for God and the good of others. Doing thorough and ethical research that aims at improving the lives of others is a pretty direct way I can glorify God.

Megan Moseley, Director of Study Management

What or who led you to join the Radicle team?

I worked with Emily Pauli for 12 years at a local oncology clinic. She told me about her new mission and how exciting it was. When she left, I told her if she ever had a spot for me, to come and get me. A month later, I got the email from her, and after reading the job description, I left my career of almost 18 years and never looked back.

What’s your role in the studies?

I oversee the day-to-day logistics of all of the studies. I answer participant questions, and I interact with the brands to keep them updated with the status of the studies. I essentially make sure that the studies are going without any issues (putting out fires and finding them.)

What can you tell me about the Radicle research process that you find interesting or stimulating?

Although I have overseen many studies, Radicle has offered the only real world studies (RWS) I have worked with. With all of my previous experiences in “RWS,” there were still so many inclusion/exclusion criteria that it was not indicative of the real world, real people. I also noticed that many more people were using CBD/Cannabis and other natural products during my oncology days, but there was no way to document that. There was nowhere that I could indicate they were using CBD or Cannabis, although you could include many other vitamins and supplements in the EDC’s or EMRs that I used. The only place that I could document that a patient had been using cannabis to combat some of their [side effects] from chemotherapy was in their comorbidities, which made it sound like it was “cannabis abuse”. That just got very frustrating. Plus, the more I heard from these patients and the benefits they were experiencing from using natural health products, the more curious I became about their potential therapeutic effects.

What’s something “radicle” about you?

I have probably given upwards of 20k in-person informed consents in my career!

How do you see Radicle Science as visionary and different from other companies?

I think that the vision for Radicle is so exciting, and being in a rebellion is just fun… I feel like we are totally changing the way clinical trials are run. What we do is so much more indicative of the actual population at large and their switch to alternative medicines. We need the data to leverage the trust in natural health products, so that doctors and pharmacists will see there are so many other options than big pharma drugs (that come with so many negative side effects.)

What is a larger goal or purpose in your life and how does working at Radicle satisfy that?

I’m able to be more present for my family. At Radicle, our value is to live healthy and fulfilled lives. I have worked the 9-5 grind my entire life, and since working at Radicle, I’m beginning to enjoy little things and see the bigger picture that life has to offer, not just making money and paying bills. This company wants you to have a well-rounded and balanced life, enjoy the audition mission at hand, thrive as a whole person – and that’s exactly what I’m doing now!
